It all started with Beta Ray Bill apparently being killed by one of Loki's masterful ploys. The sudden death of Beta Ray Bill left The Asgardians, The Korbinites, and other races of the cosmos in peril due to his absence as a protector. Thor was called back to Asgard by Odin, as Odin believed the Earth could defend itself much better then the areas that Beta Ray Bill had formerly been protecting. Weather Thor's leave of absence is permanent or temporary is yet to be seen.
Just days after Thor had left earth, Victor Von Doom had become empowered by the Haazareth. Eager to display his greatly empowered mystical abilities, Victor von Doom assaulted Las Vegas along with hundreds of Doombots. The Avengers were quick to assemble and fly over to Las Vegas, unfortunately hundreds of people had already died in the wake of Doctor Doom and his robotic army before The Avengers even arrived.
Las Vegas was in chaos, and the heroes fought long and hard to try to find Doctor Doom in the burning streets. War Machine and She-Hulk were the first to locate Doom, and were quick to try to stop Doom from killing anyone else. Unfortunately for James Rhodes and Jennifer Walters, Victor had become one of the most powerful practitioners of the mystic arts in all existence. After Doctor Doom was done toying with them, he turned She-Hulk into a pile of ash, and sent enough eldritch energy though War Machine to kill him dozens of times over.
The Avengers finally managed to confronted Victor Von Doom en-mass, surrounding him in what remained of the streets of Las Vegas. Instead of fighting, Doom merely laughed and teleported away, a nuclear warhead taking his place in the middle of the city. Already armed, the nuclear warhead exploded, killing thousands more.
Captain America felt directly responsible for being unable to prevent the staggering casualties during Doom's assault, and immediately following the destruction of Las Vegas Steve Rogers resigned form The Avengers. Bruce Banner left to mourn his relative. With Thor, Captain America, and The Hulk gone, and She-Hulk, Beta Ray Bill, and War Machine dead, Tony Stark grew distraught at the loss of his personal friend and apparent disassembling of The Avengers. After a bit too many drinks, Tony Stark officially disassembled The Avengers.
Now three weeks after The Avengers were disassembled Iron Man feels a bit lost, and Tony Stark begins anew to revive The Avengers. Looking into any possible members, Tony Stark begins to call in and recruit superhumans throughout the world.
